At the beginning of May I spent ten days in Zugliano, a small town in the Vicenza area, to paint a 4-hand piece of approximately 50 m2 with Fabio Fedele. I won the award of the wall (before it was a school, now a place of meeting for cultural activities) in February, participating in a Street Art competition.

The work, done in the fight against bad weather, bears the title: the intuition of light (and shadow).

A young female figure (no longer a child, not a woman yet) is sitting barefoot and opens a book. From the volume comes a strong light from which diaphanous elements emerge, a flower, intertwined stories, insects. She looks at us, surprised. She has a serious face, half in strong and unbelievable dim light. She questions herself, she wants to know, understand.

In the foreground an owl is perched on a perch. Symbol of wisdom and acumen for its ability to see through the dark, it represents knowledge, a broad vision completely opposed to details.

The architecture, decidedly cramped, sometimes turns into rock, it is geometry that is transformed into an unavoidable nature, a reminder of the nearby Bregonze park. It peeps out in the form of a toad and a frog on the right, and at the same time it explodes as a lovely dog’s tooth through the light of the book.

This mixture makes the work sometimes metaphysical. There is curiosity for knowledge and culture is underpinned as a form of hope, of life, of resistance.

The room is hostile, surreal, skewed, as are certain readings that return a new point of view, books that form, make you aware, make you feel guilty.

Works of poetry, fantasy or history – sometimes it doesn’t matter – what do they leave inside us?
